Overhead Crane Systems: What We Do, What We Provide and Who We Work With

If you’re expanding production, dealing with limited floor space, or looking for a safer and more efficient way to move materials around your facility, an overhead crane can make a big difference to how your operation works. At Dale Lifting & Handling, we design and deliver overhead crane systems and lifting solutions around your building, your processes and your lifting requirements.

From the initial site survey and CAD design through to manufacture, installation and testing, our team can provide a complete solution. We work with factories, workshops, warehouses and production environments across the UK, supplying everything from lightweight modular crane systems to bespoke overhead travelling cranes and runways.

Dale Lifting & Handling Specialists is an engineer-led lifting company, designing and supplying overhead crane systems to suit your lifting requirements, building layout, and operational needs. From modular lightweight crane systems using Eepos and Erikkila components to bespoke fabricated crane structures, every solution is engineered for safe, reliable performance and future flexibility.

Overhead Crane Systems We Design and Supply

We provide a complete range of overhead crane systems, including lightweight workstation cranes, single girder cranes, double girder cranes, underslung cranes and monorail systems. Depending on the application, we can also fabricate bespoke beam sections for overhead monorail, single girder and double girder crane installations, creating a system that works around the building rather than forcing the building to work around the crane.

Our crane systems can be supplied with manual, electric, or pneumatic hoists, including Donati electric hoists, selected to match your lifting capacity, operating environment, and duty requirements. From initial survey and design through to installation, testing, and aftercare, we provide a complete end-to-end lifting solution.

Case Study: 5‑tonne EOT Crane for a Vehicle Workshop

We were tasked with manufacturing an electric travelling overhead crane for a newly completed vehicle workshop which needed maximum vertical clearance in a compact space, with no compromise on hook travel despite strict headroom limits. We delivered a bespoke 5‑tonne, single‑girder electric overhead travelling (EOT) crane built around a Donati DRH series wire rope hoist on a low‑headroom trolley. The low‑profile execution seats the hoist higher within the structure, delivering a full 7 metres of hook travel. Rated to ISO M5 (FEM 2m), the system is designed for frequent, heavy use with long‑term reliability. Headroom is optimised, workflow is smoother, and service access is maintained.

Which Overhead Crane System Is Right for Your Application?

Choosing the right overhead crane system depends on more than just the weight you need to lift. Available headroom, building structure, span, lifting frequency, travel requirements and how materials move through your facility all need to be considered. At Dale Lifting & Handling, we can help identify the most suitable system for your application and design it around your working environment.

Lightweight Crane Systems

Lightweight crane systems are well suited to workstation lifting, assembly areas and applications where materials need to be moved frequently and accurately. Systems from manufacturers such as Eepos and Erikkila offer low system weight and smooth operation, making them particularly useful where flexibility, low rolling resistance and easy repositioning are important. They can also be configured around existing workstations, production cells and changing layouts.

Single and Double Girder Overhead Cranes

Single and double girder overhead cranes are designed for heavier industrial lifting applications where greater lifting capacities, longer spans or higher duty requirements need to be accommodated. These systems can be designed around the available building structure and supplied with electric, manual or pneumatic hoists to suit the application. Donati crane components and hoists can be incorporated into bespoke systems where reliable performance and regular use are required.

Monorail Crane Systems

Monorail systems provide a practical solution when materials need to follow a defined route through a workshop, factory or production area. They can be designed with straight sections, curves, switches and other track configurations to suit the movement of materials through different stages of a process. Erikkila modular steel systems are particularly suited to applications where a flexible overhead route is needed, while bespoke monorail structures can be designed for more specific lifting requirements.

What Lifting Brands Do We Work With?

Donati – Overhead Cranes and Hoists

As the UK’s largest Donati distributor, we integrate DRH wire rope hoists, chain hoists, and matched crane components to deliver durable, high-duty lifting systems with excellent serviceability. This is ideal for demanding multi-shift production environments where uptime is critical.

Erikkila – Modular Steel Crane Systems

Erikkila’s modular steel light crane systems cover monorails, single‑ and double‑girder bridges, jib cranes, and custom track networks with curves, switches, and turntables. With typical capacities up to 2,000 kg and high‑strength steel profiles for longer spans, these systems excel in assembly cells, packing areas, and linear intralogistics, especially where routes are complex and layouts evolve.

Eepos – Lightweight Aluminium Crane Systems

The Eepos range delivers lightweight aluminium monorails and bridge cranes including telescopic bridge options that reach into machines, mezzanines, or restricted bays. With exceptionally low rolling resistance and low system self‑weight, Eepos is the go-to for operator‑intensive workstations, sites sensitive to building loads, rapid installations, and fast reconfigurations. Capacities typically extend up to 2,000 kg with smooth, precise handling.
