Description
Pewag Grade 10 Three Leg Chain Sling
The Pewag Grade 10 Three Leg Chain Sling is a high-performance lifting solution designed for large, complex or irregularly shaped loads where three lifting points are required for improved stability and positioning. Manufactured from Pewag’s premium Grade 10 alloy steel chain, the sling meets the requirements of EN 818-2 and EN 818-4 while providing a 25% higher Working Load Limit (WLL) than equivalent Grade 8 chain slings.
The three-leg configuration provides additional support and control when lifting loads with multiple attachment points. When correctly rigged and used in accordance with the relevant load-rating method, two legs are considered load-bearing, while the third leg provides additional stability and positioning. Grade 10 chain also offers a minimum breaking stress of 1,000 N/mm², allowing higher lifting capacities while reducing chain weight for easier handling and rigging.
Grade 10 Three Leg Chain Sling for Stable Lifting
Three-leg chain slings are particularly useful when lifting large or irregular loads that require multiple lifting points. The additional leg can help minimise rotation and improve control during lifting, provided the sling is correctly selected and the load is evenly distributed.
Pewag Grade 10 chain offers a higher WLL than equivalent Grade 8 chain while remaining relatively lightweight. This makes the sling easier to handle and can reduce the physical effort required during repetitive lifting and rigging operations.
Flexible Hook & Shortening Options
Each sling is manufactured to order to the required effective working length and can be configured with a choice of termination options, including:
- Sling hooks with latch
- Self-locking safety hooks
- C hooks
- Swivel self-locking hooks
- Shortening grab hooks on one or more legs
Shortening hooks allow individual legs to be adjusted where required, making the sling suitable for loads where lifting points are not positioned at identical heights or where additional positioning control is required.
High-Visibility Grade 10 Chain
Pewag Grade 10 chain is finished with a high-visibility orange powder coating, providing quick visual identification of the chain grade on site. Each sling is supplied with a Pewag oval identification tag displaying key information including chain diameter, chain grade, WLL and traceability details.
Every sling is supplied with a Declaration of Conformity and safe use instructions.
Ideal Applications
Pewag Grade 10 three-leg chain slings are suitable for:

*Working Load Limit depends on chain diameter, lifting configuration and angle of inclination. The stated 3t–85t range represents the supplied product range and does not mean every three-leg configuration has this full capacity range.
Capacity & Load Information
The Working Load Limit of a three-leg chain sling depends on the chain diameter, sling configuration and angle of inclination.
For three-leg slings, the uniform load rating method considers two legs to be load-bearing, with the third leg providing additional stability. The load must therefore be correctly assessed before lifting, particularly where the load is uneven or the lifting points are not equally positioned.
The WLL must never be exceeded, and the appropriate capacity must be selected for the actual lifting arrangement. Increasing the angle of inclination increases the forces in the individual legs and can reduce the allowable lifting capacity.
For complex, asymmetric or uneven loads, the appropriate WLL should be confirmed against the relevant Pewag load-rating information before lifting.

Safety & User Instructions
- Inspect the chain sling before every use for wear, deformation, damage or other signs of deterioration.
- Check that all three legs are correctly connected to the designated lifting points before lifting.
- Never exceed the stated WLL for the specific sling configuration.
- Ensure the load is suitable for the selected lifting arrangement and that the load is properly balanced.
- Take the angle of inclination into account when determining the allowable WLL.
- Avoid shock loading, side loading and sudden movements during lifting.
- Reduce the rated capacity where severe, abnormal or otherwise adverse conditions may affect the sling.
- Ensure hooks, shortening devices and other components are correctly engaged and secured.
- Do not use a chain sling that shows signs of excessive wear, deformation or damage.
- Always follow the manufacturer’s instructions and applicable site lifting procedures.
