Description

Pewag Grade 10 Double Leg Chain Sling

The Pewag Grade 10 Double Leg Chain Sling is a high-performance lifting solution designed for balanced and semi-balanced loads where two lifting points provide improved stability and control. Manufactured using Pewag Grade 10 lifting chain, the sling is designed to meet the requirements of EN 818-2 and EN 818-4 while providing a higher Working Load Limit than equivalent Grade 8 chain sizes.

Grade 10 chain has a minimum breaking stress of 1,000 N/mm², allowing increased lifting capacity without necessarily increasing chain diameter. In many applications, this means a Grade 10 two-leg sling can be specified one chain size smaller than an equivalent Grade 8 sling, resulting in a lighter assembly that is easier to handle and rig.

Grade 10 Two Leg Chain Sling for Improved Stability

The two-leg configuration allows loads to be lifted from two lifting points, helping to improve balance and reduce unwanted rotation during lifting. Each leg connects to a central master link, creating a single lifting assembly suitable for a wide range of industrial applications.

Load capacity is dependent on the angle of inclination. Pewag load ratings are provided for lifting angles up to 45° and between 45° and 60°, allowing the correct WLL to be selected for the intended lifting configuration.

High-Strength Grade 10 Chain

Pewag Grade 10 chain provides a higher strength-to-weight ratio than traditional Grade 8 chain. The increased strength can allow a smaller chain diameter to achieve a comparable WLL, helping to reduce the overall weight of the sling without compromising its intended lifting performance.

The chain is finished with a high-visibility orange powder coating, making Grade 10 equipment easy to identify on busy worksites. Each sling is also supplied with a distinctive oval Pewag identification tag displaying important technical and traceability information.

Hook & Shortening Options

Pewag Grade 10 two-leg chain slings can be configured with a range of hook options to suit different lifting applications, including:

  • Sling hooks with latch
  • Self-locking safety hooks
  • C hooks
  • Swivel self-locking safety hooks

Optional shortening grab hooks can also be fitted to the individual legs. These allow the effective length of each leg to be adjusted, making the sling suitable for varying lifting geometries and certain asymmetric loads.

Each sling is manufactured to order to the specified effective working length.

Ideal Applications

Pewag Grade 10 Double Leg Chain Slings are suitable for:

  • Loads with two lifting points
  • Steel fabrications, frames and beams
  • Structural steel erection
  • Machinery and plant equipment
  • General engineering and manufacturing
  • Plant installation and maintenance
  • Workshop and industrial lifting
  • Applications requiring improved load stability
  • Lifting where reduced sling weight and easier handling are beneficial

Capacity & Load Information

The Working Load Limit (WLL) of a two-leg chain sling is affected by the selected chain diameter and the angle of inclination between the legs.

Pewag provides load ratings for different lifting angles, including up to 45° and between 45° and 60°. As the angle increases, the load carried by each individual leg also increases, reducing the overall WLL of the sling.

The maximum stated WLL applies where the legs are correctly configured and the load is appropriately distributed. Uneven or asymmetrical loads may require additional assessment before lifting.

The stated 2t–56t WLL range represents the available product range and should not be interpreted as the capacity of every configuration. Always select the correct chain size and configuration using the applicable Pewag load chart.

Safety & User Instructions

  • Do not exceed the rated Working Load Limit for the selected configuration and lifting angle.
  • Check the correct WLL against the Pewag load chart before lifting.
  • Ensure both legs are correctly attached before applying the load.
  • Keep the load as evenly distributed as possible between the two legs.
  • Take account of the increased forces generated as the sling angle increases.
  • Inspect the chain, master link, hooks and fittings before every lift.
  • Do not use the sling if the chain shows signs of excessive wear, deformation, damage or other defects.
  • Avoid shock loading and side loading of hooks.
  • Ensure hooks are correctly seated and secured before lifting.
  • Reduce the rated capacity or reassess the sling when used in severe conditions.
  • Follow all supplied Pewag safe use instructions and applicable lifting procedures.
