Description
Pewag Grade 10 Four Leg Chain Sling Assembly
The Pewag Grade 10 Four Leg Chain Sling Assembly is a high-performance lifting solution designed for large, heavy and irregularly shaped loads where multiple lifting points and maximum stability are required. Manufactured from Pewag’s premium Grade 10 alloy steel chain, the sling meets the requirements of EN 818-2 and EN 818-4 while providing a 25% higher Working Load Limit (WLL) than equivalent Grade 8 chain slings.
The four-leg configuration is particularly suited to box-shaped loads, structural frames and large fabrications, providing excellent load control and helping to reduce movement during lifting. When correctly rigged and rated using the uniform load method, two legs are considered load-bearing, while the additional legs contribute to stability and load positioning. Grade 10 chain also provides a minimum breaking stress of 1,000 N/mm², allowing higher lifting capacities with smaller chain diameters for easier handling and rigging.
Grade 10 Four Leg Chain Sling for Maximum Stability
Four-leg chain slings are ideal for large or awkward loads with multiple lifting points where additional stability and control are required. The four attachment points can help maintain the position of the load during lifting, making this configuration particularly useful for fabricated structures, frames, machinery and other large components.
Pewag Grade 10 chain offers a higher WLL than equivalent Grade 8 chain while maintaining a relatively low chain weight. This can make the sling easier to handle and reduce the physical effort required when rigging and carrying out repetitive lifting operations.
Flexible Hook & Shortening Options
Each sling is manufactured to order to the required effective working length and can be configured with a choice of termination options, including:
- Sling hooks with latch
- Self-locking safety hooks
- C hooks
- Swivel self-locking hooks
- Shortening grab hooks on one or more legs
Shortening grab hooks allow individual legs to be adjusted where required, providing greater flexibility when lifting uneven or asymmetrical loads or where lifting points are positioned at different heights.
High-Visibility Grade 10 Components
Pewag Grade 10 chain sling components are finished with a high-visibility orange powder coating for quick visual identification of the chain grade on site. Each sling is fitted with a Pewag oval identification tag displaying important information including chain diameter, grade, WLL, traceability data and compliance information.
Every four-leg chain sling is supplied with a Declaration of Conformity and safe use instructions.
Ideal Applications
Pewag Grade 10 four-leg chain slings are suitable for:
- Large fabrications and structural steel assemblies
- Box-shaped or multi-point lifting loads
- Structural frames and welded assemblies
- Heavy machinery and plant components
- Construction and infrastructure projects
- Offshore and marine lifting
- Engineering and manufacturing
- Loads requiring enhanced stability and positioning control
- Large or irregular loads with multiple lifting points

*Working Load Limit depends on chain diameter, lifting configuration and angle of inclination. The stated 3t–85t range represents the supplied product range and does not mean every four-leg configuration has this full capacity range.
Capacity & Load Information
The Working Load Limit of a four-leg chain sling depends on the chain diameter, sling configuration and angle of inclination.
Four-leg slings are rated using the uniform load method, under which only two legs are considered load-bearing. The remaining legs provide additional stability and help control the load. The actual lifting arrangement must therefore be assessed before use, particularly where the load is uneven or the lifting points are not positioned symmetrically.
The WLL must never be exceeded. The angle of inclination must also be taken into account, as increasing the angle increases the forces acting on the individual legs and can reduce the allowable lifting capacity.
For complex, asymmetric or uneven loads, the appropriate WLL should be confirmed against the relevant Pewag load-rating information before lifting.

Safety & User Instructions
- Inspect the chain sling before every use for wear, deformation, damage or other signs of deterioration.
- Check that all four legs are correctly connected to the designated lifting points before lifting.
- Never exceed the stated WLL for the specific sling configuration.
- Ensure the load is suitable for the selected lifting arrangement and is properly balanced.
- Take the angle of inclination into account when determining the allowable WLL.
- Avoid shock loading, side loading and sudden movements during lifting.
- Reduce the rated capacity where severe, abnormal or otherwise adverse conditions may affect the sling.
- Ensure hooks, shortening devices and other components are correctly engaged and secured.
- Do not use a chain sling that shows signs of excessive wear, deformation or damage.
- Always follow the manufacturer’s instructions and applicable site lifting procedures.
