Description

Tiger Lifting TAHS Pneumatic Air Hoist

The Tiger TAHS Pneumatic Air Hoist is designed for demanding lifting applications where reliable, continuous operation and precise load control are essential. Powered by compressed air, the TAHS range provides a practical alternative to electric hoists, particularly in environments where electrical power is unavailable or where high-duty-cycle operation is required.

Available in capacities from 250kg to 2 tonnes, the TAHS pneumatic hoist is suitable for a wide range of industrial lifting applications. It is used across industries including mining, shipyards, offshore construction, power stations, automotive manufacturing, foundries, heat treatment plants and general engineering.

Operating from a compressed air supply of 4-6 bar, the hoist is designed for rapid lifting and continuous operation. Unlike many electric hoists with limited duty cycles, the TAHS can operate continuously while compressed air is available, making it particularly suitable for repetitive or demanding lifting applications.

The Tiger TAHS range complies with the requirements of ASME B30.16 and EN 14492-2, while Tiger’s manufacturing facility is ISO 9001 certified.

Advantages of Pneumatic Air Hoists

Compressed-air hoists are particularly useful for applications where lifting equipment needs to operate frequently or continuously.

The TAHS does not have the same duty-cycle limitations associated with many electric hoists, allowing it to remain in operation until the lifting task is complete. This makes pneumatic lifting equipment well suited to production environments, maintenance operations and other applications involving repetitive lifting.

Air-powered operation can also be advantageous in locations where electrical power is unavailable or where compressed air is already available as part of the site’s infrastructure.

Integral Load Limiter

The TAHS incorporates an integral differential pressure load limiting valve designed to prevent the operator from lifting a load greater than 125% of the working load limit.

The load limiter is designed to provide repeatable operation across the hoist’s working pressure range without generating damaging heat or experiencing wear through normal operation.

This provides an additional level of protection against excessive loading during lifting operations.

Fail-Safe Disc Brake

A non-asbestos, self-adjusting disc brake is automatically applied when the air supply to the hoist is shut off.

The brake is designed to self-adjust throughout its service life and can hold loads exceeding 125% of the working load limit.

This fail-safe arrangement helps maintain load control in the event of an interruption to the compressed air supply.

Precise Load Control

The TAHS provides accurate and precise positioning of loads, making it suitable for applications where loads need to be carefully raised, lowered and positioned.

Both toggle and pendant control configurations are available, allowing the hoist to be specified according to the requirements of the application.

Pendant-controlled models are supplied with a mains emergency stop valve which shuts off the main air supply to the hoist when activated.

Designed for Demanding Industrial Applications

The TAHS pneumatic air hoist is designed for use in demanding industrial environments and has been proven across a wide range of sectors.

Robust Air Motor and Gearbox

The TAHS features an assisted vane lifting motor designed to provide high starting torque when starting under load.

A sealed planetary gearbox contains heat-treated gears mounted on high-strength, low-friction bearings. This construction is designed to withstand demanding duty cycles while keeping the drive system protected from external contamination.

An integral exhaust air silencer is incorporated into the gearbox housing, limiting the noise level to below 85 dB(A).

Grade 8 Load Chain

The TAHS uses Grade 8 load chain designed to withstand the high-speed duty cycles associated with pneumatic lifting.

The load chain complies with the requirements of EN 818-7 Appendix B, providing a robust lifting medium for demanding industrial applications.

ATEX Pneumatic Air Hoist Options

The TAHS range is available with an ATEX configuration for hazardous area applications.

The stated ATEX configuration is manufactured in accordance with ATEX Directive 2014/34/EU and Machinery Directive 2006/42/EC and is suitable for ATEX Category 3 applications.

ATEX marking:

Ex II 3 GD c IIB T4 IIIB T135°C

The Category 3 configuration is intended for:

  • Zone 2 gas hazardous areas
  • Zone 22 dust hazardous areas

An ATEX Category 2 option for higher-safety applications is also available. Please contact our sales team to confirm suitability for a specific hazardous area application.

Air Line Filter Regulator Lubricator (FRL)

A suitable FRL unit must be used with Tiger pneumatic hoists and winches.

The FRL system performs three important functions:

  • Filters water and contaminants from the air supply
  • Regulates air pressure
  • Lubricates the air supply

The use of a correctly specified FRL helps protect the pneumatic motor and maintain consistent hoist performance.

The airline lubricator should be installed as close to the hoist motor air inlet as possible and no more than 3 metres from the hoist. It should be set to deliver approximately 1–3 drops of lubricant per minute when the hoist is running at full speed.

Tiger recommends a 10-micron airline filter installed as close as possible to the hoist. The filter should be emptied and cleaned regularly to prevent excessive pressure drops.

The recommended lubricant is a light oil such as ISO VG10. Automotive detergent oils should not be used as they can damage the motor vanes.

Optional Chain Carrier

A stainless steel chain bucket is available as an optional accessory for applications requiring additional load chain storage.

The chain carrier holds the required length of loose load chain, helping prevent the chain from becoming snagged during lifting and lowering operations. It also provides protection for the loose chain when the hoist is being transported between operating locations.

Temperature Range

The standard ambient operating temperature range is -20°C to +70°C.

For applications outside this temperature range, suitability should be confirmed with the manufacturer before ordering.
