Description

Green Pin GPROV5361F Grade 8 Polar ROV Shackle

The Green Pin Tapered Pin ROV Shackle F is a specialist Grade 8 Polar Quality shackle designed for subsea release and retrieve operations using remotely operated vehicles (ROVs). Featuring a tapered screw pin and fishtail handle, the shackle is designed to make underwater assembly and manipulation easier using an ROV arm.

Available with Working Load Limits from 6.5 tonnes to 55 tonnes, the shackle is manufactured from quenched and tempered alloy steel and is suitable for both inline and side loading, subject to the applicable reduction factors.

The tapered end of the shackle pin helps guide the pin into position during underwater assembly, while the fishtail handle provides a large, easily manipulated grip for a hydraulically operated ROV arm. The handle is securely attached to the pin head using bolts and Nord-Lock® rings.

The shackle body is painted white to improve visibility underwater, while the handle is orange for additional visual identification. The screw thread on the pin is completely chambered to help protect the sling from wear and tear during use.

Specialist ROV Shackle for Subsea Operations

The Green Pin Tapered Pin ROV Shackle F has been specifically developed for release and retrieve operations with remotely operated vehicles.

The fishtail handle is designed to be manipulated by a hydraulically operated ROV arm, providing improved control during subsea connection and release operations. The tapered pin also helps make underwater assembly easier by guiding the pin into the shackle body.

Tapered Pin for Easier Underwater Assembly

The tapered ending of the screw pin helps guide the pin into the shackle during underwater assembly.

The pin also features grooves that allow it to be attached to the shackle body using wire rope. This helps keep the pin connected to the shackle during handling and subsea operations.

Note: The shackle is supplied without wires, so the user is responsible for designing an appropriate wiring plan for the intended application.

Fishtail Handle for ROV Manipulation

The fishtail handle provides an enlarged grip that can be easily manipulated by a remotely operated vehicle arm.

The handle is firmly attached to the pin head using bolts and Nord-Lock® rings, helping provide secure and controlled operation during subsea release and retrieval activities.

The Green Pin Tapered Pin ROV Shackle F is also available with a D-handle, with the handles being interchangeable and available separately.

Grade 8 Polar Quality Alloy Steel

The shackle bow and pin are manufactured from Grade 8 Polar Quality alloy steel, which is quenched and tempered for strength and durability.

The shackle has a minimum breaking load of 5 × WLL, providing a high-strength lifting connection for demanding subsea and offshore applications.

White Coating for Improved Underwater Visibility

The shackle bow is painted white to improve visibility underwater, while the pin is painted green and the fishtail handle is orange.

This contrasting finish helps make the shackle and its operating components easier to identify during ROV operations.

Ideal Applications

The Green Pin GPROV5361F ROV Shackle is suitable for specialist lifting and connection applications including:

  • Subsea lifting operations
  • ROV release and retrieve operations
  • Offshore lifting
  • Marine lifting applications
  • Underwater equipment installation and recovery

Safety & User Instructions

  • Always select a shackle with a suitable WLL for the complete lifting arrangement.
  • Never exceed the applicable WLL.
  • Check the shackle, pin, handle and attachment points for damage, distortion, excessive wear or corrosion before use.
  • Ensure the tapered screw pin is correctly fitted and fully engaged before lifting.
  • Confirm the fishtail handle and its fixing bolts are secure before use.
  • Side loading requires appropriate WLL reduction factors; do not assume the full rated WLL applies.
  • Ensure the shackle is loaded correctly and that the sling or connection is properly seated within the bow.
  • Do not use the shackle if the pin, thread, handle or body is damaged or shows signs of excessive wear.
  • The shackle is supplied without wire rope for retaining the pin, so any wiring arrangement must be appropriately designed for the application.
  • Do not modify, weld or alter the shackle or its components.
  • Ensure the operating temperature remains within the stated -60°C to +200°C range.
  • Subsea and ROV lifting operations should be planned and carried out by suitably competent personnel using appropriate equipment and procedures.
  • Always follow the manufacturer’s instructions and applicable lifting regulations and safe-use requirements.
