Description
William Hackett Hack8 Grade 8 Insulated Blank Swivel
The William Hackett Hack8 Insulated Blank Swivel is a Grade 8 rigging component for lifting operations where the load needs to be electrically isolated from the crane or lifting equipment above it. A typical application is welding on a suspended load. Fitting an insulated swivel into the rigging stops welding current from travelling up the sling into the hook block, hoist or overhead crane, where it could damage bearings, wire rope and electrical systems.
Each swivel is individually tested to resist 1000 volts and is supplied with its own insulation test certificate. This gives you documented traceability for your lifting equipment records and LOLER inspections.
Free Rotation Under Load
The Hack8 insulated swivel uses a ball bearing swivel mechanism, so the sling leg and load can rotate even while the swivel is under load. This helps prevent twisting in chain sling legs, makes it easier to position and orientate the load, and reduces torsional stress on the rigging during the lift.
Grade 8 Alloy Steel Construction
Manufactured from heat-treated alloy steel, the swivel offers a strong balance of toughness and ductility, as expected from Grade 8 lifting components. Every unit is crack detected after heat treatment and proof load tested to 2.5 times its Working Load Limit. It is rated with a 4:1 safety factor.
Performance Across a Wide Temperature Range
The swivel operates from -40°C to +200°C with no reduction in Working Load Limit. This makes it suitable for outdoor work in cold conditions and for use near warm loads in fabrication and welding environments.
Standards & Compatibility
The Hack8 Insulated Blank Swivel is designed and manufactured in accordance with EN 1677-1 and is suitable for use in chain slings certified to EN 818-4. It is available for chain sizes from 7/8mm to 20mm, so it can be specified to match the chain size and WLL of your existing Grade 8 sling assemblies. For complete assemblies, see our range of chain slings and sling components.

Safety & User Instructions
- Do not exceed the marked Working Load Limit.
- Check the insulation test certificate and identification markings before first use.
- Inspect the swivel before every use for cracks, deformation, wear, corrosion or damage to the insulation, and remove it from service if any defects are found.
- Check that the swivel rotates freely. Do not use it if the bearing is stiff, rough or seized.
- The insulated swivel is a protective measure for lifting equipment. It does not replace safe working clearances, isolation procedures or a site risk assessment when working near electrical supplies.
- Do not use the swivel to deliberately rotate a load under power.
- Avoid shock loading and sudden application of load.
- Keep the insulation clean and free from conductive contamination such as metal dust, oil or moisture.
- When used in a chain sling assembly, the WLL of the assembly is limited by its lowest-rated component.
- Thorough examination by a competent person is required under LOLER. Our LOLER inspection and testing & certification services can support this.
