Description
William Hackett Hack10 Grade 10 Clevis Clutch
The William Hackett Hack10 Grade 10 Clevis Clutch is designed specifically as a chain shortening device for Hackett Grade 10 chain sling assemblies. It lets you adjust the effective length of a sling leg to level a load or suit different lifting points.
The clutch has a clevis attachment and connects to master links and sub assemblies using a Hack10 connector and a short length of chain. This configuration gives greater flexibility than other shortening devices. It is manufactured from alloy steel in accordance with EN 1677-1, ASTM A952/A952M and DIN PAS 1061, and is suitable for use in chain slings certified to EN 818-4.
Flexible Chain Shortening
Because the clutch hangs from the master link on its own short length of chain, it can move freely and sit naturally in line with the sling leg. That makes it easy to take up slack and adjust leg lengths quickly on site. It’s useful when lifting points are at different heights or the load’s centre of gravity is off-centre.
25% Stronger Than Grade 8
The Hack10 clevis clutch is 25% stronger than its Grade 8 equivalent. This gives a higher Working Load Limit without needing a larger-diameter chain sling. You can often specify a smaller chain size than Grade 8 for the same capacity, which means lighter rigging that is easier to handle and position.
Tested for Quality and Traceability
William Hackett crack-detects every clevis clutch after heat treatment and proof load tests it to 2.5 times its Working Load Limit. These checks help confirm the integrity of each component before it enters service.
Wide Operating Temperature Range
The Hack10 clevis clutch can be used from -40°C to +200°C with no reduction in Working Load Limit. This makes it suitable for cold outdoor sites, renewables work and warmer industrial settings.
Size & Compatibility
The Hack10 clevis clutch is available for chain sizes from 8mm to 16mm, with Working Load Limits from 2.5 tonnes to 10 tonnes. It is designed to be used with:
- Hack10 Grade 10 lifting chain of the matching size
- Hack10 master links and sub assemblies
- Hack10 connectors
- Hack10 single and multi-leg chain sling assemblies
If you’d prefer a hook-style shortener that fits directly onto chain, see the Hack10 clevis grab hook.
Ideal Applications
The William Hackett Hack10 Grade 10 Clevis Clutch is suitable for:
- Shortening sling legs to level loads or suit different lifting points
- Lifting loads with an off-centre centre of gravity
- Building and repairing adjustable Grade 10 chain slings
- Construction lifting operations
- General industrial and heavy engineering lifting
- Transportation and haulage
- Renewables, including wind energy installation and maintenance

Capacity & Load Information
The Working Load Limit of the Hack10 clevis clutch depends on the size you select. The 2.5t–10t range covers the whole product range and does not apply to every size. Always match the clutch to the chain size and the required WLL of the complete assembly.
In any sling, the overall WLL is set by its configuration and its lowest-rated component. Take into account any applicable reduction factors, such as shock loading, edge loading or asymmetric loading, as set out in the manufacturer’s instructions.
