Description
William Hackett Hack10 Grade 10 Clevis Skip Hook
The William Hackett Hack10 Grade 10 Clevis Skip Hook is designed specifically for lifting waste skips and recycling bins as part of a Hackett chain sling assembly. Its spring-loaded gate clicks securely onto a skip’s trunnions, giving a fast, positive connection that holds the hook in place during the lift.
Its clevis attachment fits directly onto Hack10 Grade 10 chain without a separate connector. The hook is manufactured from alloy steel in accordance with EN 1677-1, ASTM A952/A952M and DIN PAS 1061, and is suitable for use in chain slings certified to EN 818-4.
Spring-Loaded Gate for Skip Trunnions
The spring-loaded gate snaps closed around the skip trunnion as the hook is engaged. This keeps the hook from coming free if the chain goes slack, which makes connecting and lifting skips quicker and more secure than with an open hook.
Built for Skip and Bin Handling
Skip hooks are typically used in pairs on a two-leg chain sling, or in sets of four on a four-leg chain sling, depending on the skip design. They’re a common fitting on skip lorries, at waste transfer stations and on construction sites.
25% Stronger Than Grade 8
The Hack10 skip hook is 25% stronger than its Grade 8 equivalent. This gives a higher Working Load Limit without needing a larger-diameter chain sling, which means lighter rigging that is easier to handle and position.
Tested for Quality and Traceability
William Hackett crack-detects every skip hook after heat treatment and proof load tests it to 2.5 times its Working Load Limit. These checks help confirm the integrity of each component before it enters service.
Wide Operating Temperature Range
The Hack10 clevis skip hook can be used from -40°C to +200°C with no reduction in Working Load Limit. This makes it suitable for year-round outdoor use.
Size & Compatibility
The Hack10 clevis skip hook is available in one size, for 13mm Grade 10 chain, with a Working Load Limit of 6.7 tonnes. It is designed to be used with:
- 13mm Hack10 Grade 10 lifting chain
- Hack10 two-leg and four-leg chain sling assemblies
- Waste skips and recycling bins fitted with suitable trunnions
For lifting other loads with trunnions, such as moulds and casting pots, see the Hack10 clevis foundry hook.
Ideal Applications
The William Hackett Hack10 Grade 10 Clevis Skip Hook is suitable for:
- Lifting waste skips and recycling bins
- Skip lorry and skip loader chain slings
- Waste management and recycling operations
- Construction site waste handling
- Industrial and transportation lifting of trunnion-fitted containers

Capacity & Load Information
The Hack10 clevis skip hook has a Working Load Limit of 6.7 tonnes. When the hooks are used in a multi-leg sling, the WLL of the complete assembly depends on its configuration, the leg angle and the lowest-rated component. It is not simply the WLL of each hook added together.
Make sure the skip and its trunnions are in good condition and rated for the load before lifting. Take into account any applicable reduction factors, such as shock loading or asymmetric loading, as set out in the manufacturer’s instructions.

Safety & User Instructions
- Use the skip hook only with 13mm Grade 10 chain.
- Do not mix grades within an assembly.
- Do not exceed the Working Load Limit of the hook or the complete sling.
- Make sure the clevis pin and retaining parts are fully fitted and secure.
- Check that the spring-loaded gate snaps fully closed around the trunnion before lifting.
- Make sure the trunnion is fully seated in the bowl of the hook; never load the hook on its tip or on the gate.
- Check that the skip and its trunnions are in good condition and suitable for lifting.
- Keep personnel clear of the skip during lifting and lowering.
- Inspect the hook and gate before every use for wear, cracks, deformation, a weak or damaged spring, nicks or corrosion.
- Take out of service any hook with a gate that does not close correctly, or that shows damage, distortion or excessive wear.
- Avoid shock loading and sudden application of load.
- Do not use outside the -40°C to +200°C operating temperature range.
- Do not modify, weld or heat-treat the hook.
- Follow all manufacturer instructions and make sure the equipment is thoroughly examined in line with LOLER.
