Description
William Hackett Hack8 Grade 8 Barrel Hook
The William Hackett Hack8 Grade 8 Barrel Hook is designed specifically for use in barrel sling assemblies. It is manufactured from alloy steel in accordance with EN 1677-1 and is suitable for use in chain slings certified to EN 818-4. It gives a dependable, purpose-made fitting for lifting barrels and drums with chain.
Barrel hooks are typically fitted in pairs to a two-leg chain sling. This gives a quick and secure way to handle barrels as part of a wider drum handling operation.
Grade 8 Alloy Steel Construction
Each Hack8 barrel hook is made from alloy steel, which gives a good balance between toughness and ductility. Grade 8 components suit demanding lifting environments where reliability and resistance to impact matter. Every hook carries a 4:1 safety factor.
Tested for Quality and Traceability
William Hackett crack-detects every barrel hook after heat treatment and proof load tests it to 2.5 times its Working Load Limit. These checks help confirm the integrity of each component before it enters service.
Wide Operating Temperature Range
The Hack8 barrel hook can be used from -40°C to +200°C with no reduction in Working Load Limit. This makes it suitable for cold outdoor sites as well as warmer industrial settings.
Size & Compatibility
The Hack8 barrel hook is available in one size, for 7/8mm Grade 8 chain, with a Working Load Limit of 2.0 tonnes. It is designed to be used with:
- 7/8mm Grade 8 lifting chain

Capacity & Load Information
The Hack8 barrel hook has a Working Load Limit of 2.0 tonnes. When the hooks are used in a multi-leg barrel sling, the WLL of the complete assembly depends on its configuration, the leg angle and the lowest-rated component. It is not simply the WLL of each hook added together.
Make sure the barrel or drum is suitable for lifting by its rim or chime and is in good condition. Take into account any applicable reduction factors, such as shock loading, as set out in the manufacturer’s instructions.
