Description
William Hackett Hack10 Grade 10 Eye Self Locking Hook
The William Hackett Hack10 Grade 10 Eye Self Locking Hook has a special latch mechanism that locks automatically when the hook comes under load. Once the load is relieved, the operator presses the latch trigger by hand to release the lock. This gives a high level of security against accidental disengagement during the lift.
Its eye attachment means it can be used in both chain and wire rope assemblies. On chain, it connects using a Hack10 connector. The hook is manufactured from alloy steel in accordance with EN 1677-3, ASTM A952/A952M and DIN PAS 1061, and is suitable for use in chain slings certified to EN 818-4.
Automatic Locking Under Load
Unlike a standard sling hook, the self locking hook closes and locks itself as soon as load is applied. The hook can’t open while it is loaded. The lock only releases when the load has been taken off and the trigger is operated by hand. This makes it a strong choice where load security is critical.
Eye Attachment for Chain and Wire Rope
The eye fitting gives the hook more flexibility than a clevis type. It can be fitted to chain with a connector, or used on wire rope assemblies. This makes it a practical choice if you work with more than one sling type, or want a locking hook that can be moved between assemblies.
DGUV Test H-Mark Certified
The Hack10 eye self locking hook has been independently verified and awarded the DGUV Test H-Mark for lifting components, under number H83. This third-party accreditation gives extra assurance of the hook’s quality and performance, on top of the manufacturer’s own testing.
25% Stronger Than Grade 8
The Hack10 eye self locking hook is 25% stronger than its Grade 8 equivalent. This gives a higher Working Load Limit without needing a larger-diameter chain sling. You can often specify a smaller chain size than Grade 8 for the same capacity, which means lighter rigging that is easier to handle and position.
Tested for Quality and Traceability
William Hackett crack-detects every eye self locking hook after heat treatment and proof load tests it to 2.5 times its Working Load Limit. These checks help confirm the integrity of each component before it enters service.
Wide Operating Temperature Range
The Hack10 eye self locking hook can be used from -40°C to +200°C with no reduction in Working Load Limit. This makes it suitable for cold outdoor sites, renewables work and warmer industrial settings.
Size & Compatibility
The Hack10 eye self locking hook is available for chain sizes from 8mm to 32mm, with Working Load Limits from 2.5 tonnes to 40 tonnes. It is designed to be used with:
- Hack10 Grade 10 lifting chain of the matching size, via a Hack10 connector
- Wire rope assemblies of a suitable rating
- Hack10 single and multi-leg chain sling assemblies
For general lifting where a self locking latch isn’t required, see the Hack10 eye sling hook. If you’d prefer a locking hook that fits directly onto chain, see the Hack10 clevis self locking hook.
Ideal Applications
The William Hackett Hack10 Grade 10 Eye Self Locking Hook is suitable for:
- Lifts where secure, locked engagement of the hook is essential
- Chain and wire rope sling assemblies
- Construction lifting operations
- General industrial and heavy engineering lifting
- Transportation and haulage
- Renewables, including wind energy installation and maintenance

Capacity & Load Information
The Working Load Limit of the Hack10 eye self locking hook depends on the size you select. The 2.5t–40t range covers the whole product range and does not apply to every size. Always match the hook to the chain size, or the wire rope assembly rating, and the required WLL of the complete assembly.
In any sling, the overall WLL is set by its configuration and its lowest-rated component. Take into account any applicable reduction factors, such as shock loading, edge loading or asymmetric loading, as set out in the manufacturer’s instructions.

- Do not exceed the Working Load Limit of the hook or the complete sling.
- When fitting to chain, use the correct size Hack10 connector and make sure it is fully assembled and secure.
- Check that the latch closes fully and locks before lifting.
- Never attempt to operate the trigger or open the hook while it is under load.
- Seat the load fully in the bowl of the hook; never load the hook on its tip.
- Avoid side loading, back loading and point loading of the hook.
- Inspect the hook, latch and trigger mechanism before every use for wear, cracks, deformation, nicks, corrosion or damaged springs.
- Take out of service any hook with a latch that does not close and lock correctly, or that shows damage, distortion or excessive wear.
- Avoid shock loading and sudden application of load.
- Do not use outside the -40°C to +200°C operating temperature range.
- Do not modify, weld or heat-treat the hook.
- Follow all manufacturer instructions and make sure the equipment is thoroughly examined in line with LOLER.
