Description
William Hackett Hack10 Grade 10 Clevis Foundry Hook
The William Hackett Hack10 Grade 10 Clevis Foundry Hook is typically used for lifting and handling moulds and casting pots in foundries. It is also suitable for lifting applications where people cannot safely handle the hook or the load, because of heat, height or other hazards.
The hook has a long nib for easy insertion into eye fittings, and a generous aperture and bowl designed to accommodate trunnions on the load. Its clevis attachment fits directly onto Hack10 Grade 10 chain without a separate connector. It is manufactured from alloy steel in accordance with EN 1677-1, ASTM A952/A952M and DIN PAS 1061, and is suitable for use in chain slings certified to EN 818-4.
Designed for Foundry and Hands-Off Lifting
The long nib makes it easy to guide the hook into eye fittings, often without anyone needing to touch the hook or the load. This makes the foundry hook well suited to hot, hazardous or hard-to-reach lifts where keeping people at a safe distance is the priority.
Wide Bowl for Trunnions
The generous aperture and deep bowl are shaped to take the trunnions found on ladles, casting pots and moulds. This gives a secure seat for the load during lifting and handling. Foundry hooks are often used in pairs on a two-leg chain sling to lift by opposing trunnions.
25% Stronger Than Grade 8
The Hack10 foundry hook is 25% stronger than its Grade 8 equivalent. This gives a higher Working Load Limit without needing a larger-diameter chain sling. You can often specify a smaller chain size than Grade 8 for the same capacity, which means lighter rigging that is easier to handle and position.
Tested for Quality and Traceability
William Hackett crack-detects every foundry hook after heat treatment and proof load tests it to 2.5 times its Working Load Limit. These checks help confirm the integrity of each component before it enters service.
Operating Temperature Range
The Hack10 foundry hook can be used from -40°C to +200°C with no reduction in Working Load Limit. In foundry work, the temperature of the hook itself must stay within this range. Keep the hook clear of molten metal and radiant heat sources, and follow the manufacturer’s guidance for any higher-temperature use.
Size & Compatibility
The Hack10 clevis foundry hook is available for chain sizes from 8mm to 16mm, with Working Load Limits from 2.5 tonnes to 10 tonnes. It is designed to be used with:
- Hack10 Grade 10 lifting chain of the matching size
- Hack10 single and multi-leg chain sling assemblies
- Loads with trunnions or eye fittings that suit the hook’s aperture and nib
For general-purpose lifting, see the Hack10 clevis sling hook.

Capacity & Load Information
The Working Load Limit of the Hack10 clevis foundry hook depends on the size you select. The 2.5t–10t range covers the whole product range and does not apply to every size. Always match the hook to the chain size and the required WLL of the complete assembly.
In any sling, the overall WLL is set by its configuration and its lowest-rated component. Take into account any applicable reduction factors, such as shock loading, asymmetric loading or elevated temperatures, as set out in the manufacturer’s instructions.

- Do not exceed the Working Load Limit of the hook or the complete sling.
- Make sure the clevis pin and retaining parts are fully fitted and secure.
- Make sure trunnions or eye fittings are fully seated in the bowl before lifting; never load the hook on its nib or tip.
- Keep personnel at a safe distance from the hook and load during lifting, especially in foundry operations.
- Do not allow the hook temperature to exceed +200°C; keep it clear of molten metal and radiant heat sources.
- Avoid side loading, back loading and point loading of the hook.
