Description
William Hackett Hack10 Grade 10 Clevis Grab Hook
The William Hackett Hack10 Grade 10 Clevis Grab Hook is designed to grab chain. It is commonly used as a chain shortening device in lifting applications, and for lashing. Its clevis attachment fits directly onto Hack10 Grade 10 chain without a separate connector, which keeps the assembly compact.
The hook is manufactured from alloy steel in accordance with EN 1677-1, ASTM A952/A952M and DIN PAS 1061. It is suitable for use in chain slings certified to EN 818-4.
25% Stronger Than Grade 8
The Hack10 clevis grab hook is 25% stronger than its Grade 8 equivalent. This gives a higher Working Load Limit without needing a larger-diameter chain sling. You can often specify a smaller chain size than Grade 8 for the same capacity, which means lighter rigging that is easier to handle and position.
Chain Shortening and Lashing
The grab hook’s slot is sized to hold a link of the matching chain securely. This lets you adjust the effective length of a sling leg to level a load or suit different lifting points. It also makes the clevis grab hook useful for chain lashing and load securing on transport and site work.
Tested for Quality and Traceability
William Hackett crack-detects every clevis grab hook after heat treatment and proof load tests it to 2.5 times its Working Load Limit. These checks help confirm the integrity of each component before it enters service.
Wide Operating Temperature Range
The Hack10 clevis grab hook can be used from -40°C to +200°C with no reduction in Working Load Limit. This makes it suitable for cold outdoor sites, renewables work and warmer industrial settings.
Size & Compatibility
The Hack10 clevis grab hook is available for chain sizes from 8mm to 16mm, with Working Load Limits from 2.5 tonnes to 10 tonnes. It is designed to be used with:
- Hack10 Grade 10 lifting chain of the matching size
- Hack10 single and multi-leg chain sling assemblies
- Other Hack10 components within a Grade 10 sling
For larger chain sizes, or if you’d prefer to attach the hook with a connector, see the Hack10 eye grab hook. If you’d prefer a dedicated shortening device, the Hack10 clevis clutch is also available.
Ideal Applications
The William Hackett Hack10 Grade 10 Clevis Grab Hook is suitable for:
- Shortening sling legs to level loads or suit different lifting points
- Chain lashing and load securing
- Construction lifting operations
- General industrial and heavy engineering lifting
- Transportation and haulage
- Renewables, including wind energy installation and maintenance

Capacity & Load Information
The Working Load Limit of the Hack10 clevis grab hook depends on the size you select. The 2.5t–10t range covers the whole product range and does not apply to every size. Always match the grab hook to the chain size and the required WLL of the complete assembly.
When the hook is used to shorten a sling leg, check the manufacturer’s instructions for any WLL reduction that applies to shortened chain. Lashing applications are rated by lashing capacity rather than lifting WLL, so refer to the relevant load-securing guidance. Take into account any applicable reduction factors, such as shock loading or edge loading.
